ABSTRACT

Many women develop premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in the years before the menopause, and treatment of their symptoms may be difficult. Many other women on reaching the menopause require treatment with conventional, cyclical estrogen-progestogen hormone replacement therapy (HRT) preparations. A good understanding of premenstrual disorders is essential to those who manage patients at the menopause. It is also true that those who manage PMS must understand the mechanism and management of the menopause. There are several reasons for this:
