ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the components of the monetary measures that are computed from the detailed series. The series is too small by the amount of coin held in the Banking Department of the Bank of England. This is because the data for total coin in circulation exclude such coin, while those for notes and coin in the Banking Department include it. The series for UK deposit and other accounts was obtained by the subtraction of current accounts from the series for total deposits. The series for the items in transit adjustor is comprised of 60 per cent of total UK items in transit. This series is used to provide figures for current accounts net of cheques in clearing. The series for UK banks' deposit and other accounts includes certain items that should be netted out of the UK total. These are principally inter-bank deposits.
