ABSTRACT

DNA technology offers to crime investigators and to the courts an opportunity for an unparalleled degree of certainty in determining whether body samples collected in different sites have the same source. If properly presented by its developers, DNA profiling is likely to be enthusiastically accepted by a criminal justice system hungry for the benefits to proof that technology can bring. Happily, its contribution comes in fields that have long posed difficulties-sexual assault evidence, paternity testing, and all areas where body-tissue matching is relevant to proof of an important issue in dispute.
