ABSTRACT

These chapters outline the conceptual and technical foundations of this model of parentinfant psychotherapy. It is a fundamentally psychoanalytic model, which stresses the centrality of unconscious processes in mental and relational life while also drawing on other traditions of thought about development1. The model adapts the technical aspects of the psychoanalytic setting to make it suitable for work with young infants and their parents together. It can be used in brief therapy and also in longer-term, more open-ended therapy.'
