Developing a quality system
Quality assurance of construction works begins at the time the project brief is developed and passed to the architect/engineer. The client, whether a government body or a private enterprise, operates a quality system to ensure that the requirements of the project are adequately defined and clearly communicated to the architect. The architect/engineer makes use of another quality system to control the design process such that the client’s requirements are fully and unequivocally incorporated in the drawings and specifications. In turn, the contractor implements yet another quality system to ensure that the construction is carried out in accordance with the specified details. In this book, attention is focused on helping the contractor establish a quality system for his organization. It should not be forgotten, however, that quality of the final product can only be assured with the concerted efforts of all parties involved.
