In both 1 and 2. Timmy is expressing the same idea to his mother: his car is going. Notice, however, that in 1, he does this by uttering only one word at a time, while several months later, in 2, he is able to combine both words into one sentence. In the process, he eliminates some of his mother’s guess work. We see the same change taking place in Dialogues 3 and 4.
