ABSTRACT
Fractures around prosthetic implants most commonly affect the hip and knee, although fractures around shoulder and elbow prostheses occur. Fractures occur as an acute event following a fall, or as an acute on chronic process with established implant loosening and osteolysis, resulting in a fracture after minimal trauma. Management is best within a specialist revision arthroplasty unit.
