ABSTRACT

The bowed radius rotates around the ulna allowing supination and pronation. The aim of treatment is to restore bony anatomy and preserve movement.

Classification

The most commonly used classification is one which divides the bones into thirds. The AO classification has been shown to have a high degree of interobserver variability. Three eponyms are commonly used:

• Monteggia (ulna fracture with radial head dislocation). • Nightstick (isolated ulna shaft fracture). • Galeazzi (radial fracture and distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) dislocation).
