ABSTRACT

Scapular fractures are in themselves a rarity (<1% of all fractures), but are often associated with other bony or soft tissue injuries to the shoulder girdle, neck or thoracic cage. The mean patient age is 35 to 45 years; motor car accidents account for 50% of all scapular fractures and motor cycle accidents 20%. Major trauma is required to fracture the scapula, so other injuries and complications are common (50 to 90% of cases).
