ABSTRACT

The determination of ethanol in biological fluids is probably the most commonly performed forensic test in existence. The prevalence of ethanol, and its widespread social acceptance, together with a large and disparate body of rules regarding its sale and consumption, often require that its presence be shown analytically, reliably, quantitatively ~ and quickly. The results of this analysis are then subject to scrutiny by judges, juries, attorneys, the media and the public. The importance of the consequences which can ensue, require that all the attention and care which can be taken, must be taken.
