5.1 OUTLINE

Gas chromatography has found widespread use and is the method of choice in forensic laboratories in the analysis of fire debris. The technique is less widely used in the analysis of explosives, but has found some accepted applications. This chapter will review the use of gas chromatography in the forensic analysis of fire and explosion debris. General analysis conditions as well as specific applications are covered. The information presented, along with the references cited, provides the reader with a broad overview of gas chromatographic analysis of arson and explosives samples.
