It is an interesting observation that while some people can cope with
adversity without experiencing great distress others become stuck in
remembrance, misery and fear. It is not fully understood why there should be
such a variation in reaction, but it does seem that in general adverse life
events are linked to the development of psychiatric illness in adolescence.
