Japanese Gay Men’s Self-Understanding
The following discussion is based primarily on common themes deriving from the interviews I conducted with the men outlined in the previous chapter. However, in order to show that the issues raised are not particular to my group of informants, I have supplemented this with references to the interview data collected by Ōhama (1994), Yajima (1997) and Summerhawk et al. (1998) as well as references to other gay men I have spoken to or corresponded with, whose biographies I have not given. I have also occasionally referred to biographical information taken from Japanese gay websites and published in books and magazine articles.
