ABSTRACT

At the end of the school year I interviewed the teachers once again to find out what they felt they had learnt about the boys and literacy issue. Were the teachers any clearer, for example, about the nature and cause of boys’ difficulties? A second area of interest was the impact of this project on teachers’ practice. From our previous discussions I was aware that many teachers referred to radical changes in their approach to teaching certain aspects of literacy. I wanted to find out more about these changes and also to ascertain why they had taken place. Finally, I was interested in any impact the project might have had on teachers’ thinking about gender and its relationship with schooling.
