ABSTRACT

When lexemes are used in dictionaries as HEADWORDS, they are cited in their CANONICAL

FORMS (e.g. in English, verbs in the bare infinitive [face] shorn of all grammatical inflections [face\d, face\s, fac\ing]). The meanings of lexemes are explained in the general dictionary by DEFINITIONS or in specialised reference works such as THESAURUSES or SYNONYM DICTIONARIES (in thematically grouped conceptual lists).
