Teachers’ Responses to Student Writing

In Chapter 6 I suggested some of the ways in which features of students’ GCSE coursework texts might be interpreted by their readers. So far, this has been done from a largely theoretical perspective, drawing on analysis of the values expressed within the public discourse of investigation and on consideration of the examination context. In this chapter, the readers’ point of view will be examined to identify which features of students’ mathematical writing teachers attend to and the ways in which they interpret and evaluate them.
