ABSTRACT

Two-dimensional echocardiography has played a phenomenal role in diagnosis of congenital heart disease, and Doppler, its correct hemodynamic status. Atrial situs solitus is the normal situation, best studied in the subcostal view, morphologic right atrium to the right, and the left atrium to the left. Atrial and visceral situs are almost always concordant. Pulmonary venous connection is seen in four chamber and suprasternal view. The four-chamber view helps to determine ventricular morphology and relative position of atrioventricular valves. Identification of great arteries is the final step in segmetal approach to cardiac anatomy. The morphologic left ventrcle gives rise to aorta, and pulmonary artery outlet of right ventricle. Ostium secundum is the most common type of atrial septal defect (ASD). Ostium primum occurs in 30% of all ASDs including those as a part of complete atrioventricular defects. Isolated ostium ASD occurs in 15% of all ASD.
