ABSTRACT

Many people throughout the world claim to have had a religious experience of some kind. Are these kinds of experiences evidence that God exists?

In this chapter you will examine what is meant by a religious experience. In particular, you will focus on studying the work of William James and the conclusions he reached. You will also examine the explanations of religious experiences offered by Freud, and Marxist ideas about religion and religious experience.
