ABSTRACT
All staff working in the museum environment need to be able to measure their personal performance against defined standards. Without standards, staff and management cannot judge their performance objectively as they do not know how well they are working. Standards can be developed and agreed internally by the museum’s management team working in conjunction with their staff, or the museum can adopt standards that have been developed externally. These will have been drawn up by relevant professional bodies that establish standards for the different types of work undertaken in museums.
