ABSTRACT
It is a vital part of the collecting programme to lay down precise procedures for field documentation. The museum managers must insist that all staff follow the procedures precisely, and they should also ensure that younger members of their staff are so well trained in field documentation that it becomes second nature to them. ICOM’s Code of Ethics for Museums provides additional guidance (see Unit 6).
