Palestinian novelist and short-story writer. Habībī began publishing short stories in the 1940s when he was involved in communist activities under the British mandate. He later became one of the founders of the Israeli Communist Party and won a three-term membership of the Knesset on its list. In addition to his many political writings, he has written a number of highly acclaimed fictional works.
