ABSTRACT
Earlier chapters have examined the worldwide microprocessor and MOS memory markets. This chapter focuses on standard logic integrated circuits. Standard logic chips are of particular importance in microelectronics for two main reasons. First, these were the first type of integrated circuits (ICs) and represented a radical shift from the previous generation of semiconductors (viz. transistors). Second, the early technological history was highly turbulent and had a major impact on market structure.
