ABSTRACT

Dear Consultant: For years, I have been trying to figure out if self-disclosure has a place in my groups. I’ve been practicing for about 10 years and I am comfortable sharing aspects of my personal life with my individual patients, but I’m more reluctant in my groups. This has to do with my training and with my not being clear of the effects on group members because they can react from such different places. I have three typical examples of personal areas I would love to disclose but do not.
