ABSTRACT
The theory for the design of drum flakers was discussed in Chapter 2. Sec. 4.2 contains a general description of drum flakers. Attention is paid to the various ways in which the feed can be applied to the drumflaker: by pickup from a pan (standard method), by means of a bottom-mounted applicator roll, or by means of a top-mounted applicator roll. The successive steps of the drum flaking process are explained. The construction of drum flakers is discussed in Sec. 4.3. The relevance of small-scale tests is treated in Sec. 4.4. Secs. 4.5-4.8 deal with various aspects of a design method for drum flakers. Its application requires the knowledge of the physical properties of the flaked material. Verification of the design method is the subject of Sec. 4.9. A large amount of data for three different materials was analyzed.
