ABSTRACT
Generally speaking, there are three types of fit between cylindrical parts. These are clear-
ance fits, transition fits, and interference fits. These are standard fit classifications each is
based on how the mating parts interact. There are U.S. and international standards and systems
governing these fit classifications. Information on these standard systems can be found in
Machinery’s Handbook* or in documents from the applicable standards governing bodies.
