This chapter explores how the impaired body was socialised – that is, lived socio-spatiallyin feudalism. The empirical analysis is rooted in the English medieval context. Broadly, the term ‘medieval England’ refers to the period between the Norman Conquest (1066) and the sixteenth century, during which time a feudal mode of production may be said to have prevailed (Bloch, 1962; Anderson, 1974a).
