ABSTRACT

In this chapter we discuss the various units of measurement employed in liquid pipeline hydraulics and proceed to cover the more important properties of liquids that affect hydraulic calculations. The importance of specific gravity, viscosity of pure liquids and mixtures will be analyzed and the concepts will be illustrated with sample problems. This chapter forms the foundation for all calculations involving pipeline pressure drops and horsepower requirements in subsequent chapters. In Appendix A you will find tables listing properties of commonly used liquids such as water and petroleum products.
