ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows that a variety of factors can be used to explain the skewed nature of the Philippine space economy; priority has clearly been given to core areas in terms of infrastructure provision and investment promotion, assuming that a process of spatial trickle-down will eventually occur. It provides an account of the ways in which 'local-global' relations in the Philippines have been constructed over time at a national scale. The book explains to be rather more localized and 'embodied' than many writers allow this localization occurs at multiple scales. It also provides 'archaeology' of globalization in the Philippines and in so doing demonstrates its historical contingency. The book suggests that there is indeed a rich source of such alternatives circulating in the Phillipines that deserve a wider audience.
