ABSTRACT

This paper deals with petrographic characteristics and quality of three Chinese energy coals by means of petrological investigation and proximate analysis. The result shows that minerals are usually rich in coarser parts of the pulverized coals, however, inertinites rich in finer parts. Meanwhile, the coarser is higher in ash content, and the finer is lower. Moreover, several parameters related to coal combustion, such as maximum rate for devolatilization of coals, ignition temperature of chars, maximum rate for char combustion, and duration of char combustion were investigated by means of thermogravimetrical analysis. And Yangquan and Shenfu coals were further tested in a drop tube furnace (DTF) for their combustion property. Kinetics of combustion like activation energy (E), pre-exponential factor (ko) were gained in combination with numerical calculation and mathematical simulation.
