ABSTRACT

In this paper, the imminence and significance to investigate the stability of rock engineering under deep ground is elucidated. First of all, physical and mechanical properties of deep rock masses are discussed. Secondly, on the basis of discussion about rock deformation characteristics under high stress condition, the stability of high stress rock masses in deep ground is analyzed. Depending on these analyses, significance to investigate inducement of rock burst and multistage fracture phenomenon of rock masses is pointed out. Meanwhile, typical examples are quoted to prove the existence of regular rupture structure in deep surrounding rocks, which is considered as an important characteristic of high stress rock masses. Finally, deficiencies of stability theories in existence are discussed, and the applying foreground of nonlinear theories in stability analysis of deep high stress rock masses is emphasized.
