ABSTRACT
Industrial archaeology, as has been seen, is concerned with the material culture of the last 250 years or so. In so far as elements of that culture have survived into the present, they comprise a resource by means of which the past can be better comprehended. The survivals may be landscapes, buildings, archaeological sites or artefacts: their transformation into a cultural resource depends on the use which is made of them in the present.
