ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the conceptual development and implementation of the functional architecture for the e-Engineering Hub developed by the e-Engineering enabled by Holonomic and Universal Broker Service (e-HUB) project. It reviews key concepts of workflow management system and addresses the rationale of adopting workflow as the core of the e-Hub. The chapter demonstrates the implementation of the functional architecture with the seismic engineering scenario. The e-HUBs project aims to develop a new approach to facilitating collaboration among Small and Medium sized Enterprises by offering transparent templates during the engineering collaboration process. The chapter discusses the development of generic project planning (PP) workflows and the supporting engineering services in a seismic engineering scenario. The e-Hub also provides a PP and scheduling whiteboard, which allows project participants to discuss any particular aspect of task schedule or of any issue of the project plan in a synchronous session through live diagrammatic communication.
