ABSTRACT
This chapter will examine the diverse processes of urbanisation and urban change within the world's major regions. In our discussion we shall examine the dynamics of recent urban change in six global regions. In each region we shall identify the main social, economic and demographic forces underlying urban change and the effects of these on the pattern of urban development at present and in the immediate future.
