ABSTRACT
Drilled shafts cannot be readily inspected once they are constructed. On the other hand, the performance of drilled shafts is highly dependent on the local geology and on the construction procedure followed by the drilled shaft contractor. Hence it is not easy for engineers to be assured that the constructed shafts comply with the design specifications. Loading tests of drilled shafts are therefore highly desirable when it is feasible to perform them.
