ABSTRACT

A 48-year-old man presented with a 6-week history of thirst and fatigue. Although overweight (92 kg; height 168 cm; BMI 32.6 kg/m2), he had lost 5 kg over the previous few weeks. Family practitioner. This patient had no significant past medical history. A urine sample showed 2% glycosuria and no ketones. I arranged for a laboratory plasma glucose test 2 hours after breakfast the following day.
