ABSTRACT
The osteoblast is essential for bone formation and lies at the centre of bone physiology (Figure 2.5). It synthesizes bone collagen, non-collagen proteins and alkaline phosphatase and controls mineralization. It also controls the activity of the osteoclasts by mechanisms that are not understood.
