ABSTRACT
Pneumonia describes a lower respiratory tract infection with radiological changes on chest radiography. It is a potentially dangerous infection with a significant mortality, being a common cause of death in elderly patients. Pneumonia in a previously healthy individual is classed as primary and is usually lobar. Pneumonia secondary to some other disorder is usually bronchopneumonia (patchy areas of infection).
