ABSTRACT
Lung cancer (bronchial carcinoma) is the commonest malignant neoplasm affecting men in the developed world and is the commonest cause of death from cancer. Lung carcinoma is also the second commonest cancer in women after breast cancer, but is even more common than breast cancer in areas such as the West of Scotland where a high proportion of women smoke.
