ABSTRACT
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are, by definition, diseases which are primarily transmitted via sexual contact. They were previously known as venereal diseases. Intimate contact is required for their transmission-they are not as highly contagious as, for example, airborne infections such as respiratory viruses.
