ABSTRACT

The accuracy of conclusions drawn about brain-behavior relationships depends on the reliability and validity of the assessment procedures utilized. In addition, the accuracy of statements made about the procedures utilized often depends on the competence and integrity of the developer of those procedures. However, even the most competent and honest test developer may inadvertently limit the utility of the test if he or she is unaware of potential ethical pitfalls associated with test development. The authors of this chapter bring their considerable experience with test development to the examination of the ethical issues associated with neuropsychological test development. Through the vignettes and their analyses, the reader is afforded an opportunity to understand and thus avoid common ethical pitfalls associated with neuropsychological test development.
