ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Coronary artery disease is increasing in prevalence and is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide [1]. Clinically manifest coronary artery disease may present as stable angina, acute coronary syndrome, or sudden cardiac death. Acute coronary syndromes encompass patients who have evidence of myonecrosis, or are felt to be at high risk of myonecrosis in the immediate future, and thus include patients with unstable angina (USA), non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), and ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) [2-5].
