ABSTRACT
The use of stents placed by an endovascular approach is a relatively new treatment for carotid artery stenosis. However, the use of carotid artery stenting is growing in popularity as more clinical trials begin to demonstrate its efficacy as an alternative to surgical endarterectomy. Herein we review the evidence behind the use of endovascular stenting in the treatment of asymptomatic carotid stenosis. Other chapters in this volume have discussed stenting for symptomatic carotid stenosis and endarterectomy for asymptomatic stenosis.
