ABSTRACT

In this chapter we shall examine two issues of relevance to labour representation in Hong Kong which were closely related to the growing rift between the British and Chinese governments. The first of these is the changes to the legislative process, particularly to the composition of the Legislative Council (LegCo), introduced by the government in the run-up to the transition, and the reversal of these changes introduced by the new SAR government. The second of these is the changes to the legal framework for trade unions introduced by the former government and the reversal of these changes by the latter.
