ABSTRACT

ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES FOR A THEORETICAL TREATMENT OF DISCRIMINATION ON THE LABOUR MARKET

It can be regarded as an established fact that at least at certain times and/or in different countries discrimination in labour markets has been exercised. But it is equally true that until recently economists (in contrast to sociologists and political scientists) have not given much attention to this phenomenon. As an exception we should name the United States, where the race problem had always made the discrimination question a topical theme. This paper is intended to make a small contribution to the discrimination literature. To indicate its place within this literature I start off with a short summary of the most important approaches in this field.
