ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the ways in which new teachers can manage their workloads more efficiently in order to create and maintain a supportive worklife balance. Many particularly effective people talk of 'using time twice', meaning that they get the maximum use out of each minute that they get. It's also important to get to know how teachers work best. The first thing to consider regarding pacing of work is that things change. Energy levels fluctuate over time, as does enthusiasm, and these two factors in particular can have a significant impact on what teachers can get done and at what pace. Teachers very rarely get to the point where every task is ticked off their 'to do' list and every aspect of their working life is perfectly in order.
