ABSTRACT

With so much focus on reaching and maintaining certain standards, planning and preparation for all the classes, managing behaviour, attending meetings, observing and being observed, and generally settling oneself into a new career, the crucial matter of maintaining a work—life balance can plummet right to the bottom of the list of priorities. This chapter covers the issues that typically come up around work life balance and some of the effective solutions that might like to employ if this is an issue. School days, terms and years have very distinct rhythms. Becoming familiar with these and aiming to work with them rather than against them will help to preserve enough energy to take right through to the end of each term rather than running out of steam and risking burnout as the final weeks of a term approach.
