ABSTRACT
This journey of exploration is approaching its end. We have travelled through many lands over very long periods of time. It is now necessary to take stock of what we have seen and learned. It is time also to peer through the mists into that distant land in which none of us can travel-the future. We cannot go there but we can look at it through the lens of the past. Some major options are looming up before us, and we need to ensure that we make the right choices. We should not be diverted by those who are risk-aversethose riders in the chariot of retreat.
