ABSTRACT
This book has suggested that roots of both the psychology of intelligence and the subject-based school curriculum are located in the same place – the world of puritanism and its descendants. ‘Roots’, not ‘the roots’. Historical phenomena have complex antecedents, and this book is not a comprehensive account of all causal factors: it makes a more limited claim. The evidence supporting it is laid out above for others to challenge or confirm.
