ABSTRACT

How are we to arrive at a knowledge of the unconscious? It is of course only as something conscious that we know it, after it has undergone transformation or translation into something conscious. Psychoanalytic work shows us every day that translation of this kind is possible. In order that this should come about, the person under analysis must overcome certain resistances … the same resistances as those which, earlier, made material concerned into something repressed by rejecting it from the conscious.
