ABSTRACT

Thus far, this book has examined aspects of the pressures which have supported conservation, the history of conservation, the UK’s legal-judicial conservation planning system, and planning policies, practices and developments in designated conservation areas. Thus far, the resulting picture is one of confusion of ideals and practices, and conflict throughout the procedures. In this last part, we need, therefore, to return to the book’s starting-point and to review some of the key ideas and questions of conservation in the light of the examples already used, and other relevant cases.
